It’s that time of the year, the time when we all make promises to ourselves that we inevitably do not keep.
I’m going to diet and cut out junk food.
I’m going to join the gym.
I’m not going to spend time thinking about that jerk from last year.
Honestly, those are actually some of my New Year’s resolutions. In addition to developing a TV schedule so that I don’t stay up too late on work nights so that I can further binge on my current TV obsession. Seriously, it’s a bad habit that I need to break.
And I guess that is what New Year’s resolutions are about, breaking bad habits. About trying to better ourselves. Taking one step closer to being the person that we want to be. Of course, we don’t have to wait until the first of January rolls around each year but the start of a new year is a significant moment and we mark it by moving on from the old and looking forward to the new.
This year I am taking it one step further and I am challenging myself. Not only am I trying to better myself but I am also challenging myself to enhance my creative side. And it may seem trivial to you but I am undertaking a Year of Braids. Yes, I am going to put some kind of french braid in my hair for the next 365 days. It is literally not going to achieve anything but why not.
And of course, I’m up for any distraction from my Chronically Single status.
